Summer is in full swing, and there are so many fun activities scheduled in historic El Cajon and the surrounding areas. Whether you are a family, car enthusiast or music lover there is something for everyone to enjoy.

For the Love of Music

The music is alive throughout East County, with a series of concerts in El Cajon, Santee, and Poway. These family friendly events are fun for all ages with music from a variety of genres.

El Cajon Free Concerts
You can enjoy weekly free concerts here in El Cajon at the Dinner & A Concert series on the Prescott Promenade located downtown. The event runs every Friday from May through September from 6 to 8 p.m. More information is located on the Downtown El Cajon website.

Santee Summer Concert Series
Food trucks and music are available every Thursday this summer at the Town Center Community Park East in Santee from 6:30 to 8 p.m. From Santana Soul to Cassie B’s 90s remix, there is something for every type of music lover. More information is on the City of Santee website.

Poway Summer Concerts
Lake Poway and Old Poway Park rotate concerts events every Sunday through August 14 featuring local musicians from all genres. Attendees can enjoy the natural surroundings of the parks while enjoying live music. More information about dates, location, and artists can be found here.

Classic Cars Unite

Classic car aficionados, families, and other residents come together at local community car shows to peruse the cars and enjoy other family-friendly activities.

Cajon Classic Cruz Car Show
Every Wednesday through the end of October car lovers flock to downtown El Cajon to check out the classic cars and eat at one of the many local restaurants. Each week, the event features a different type of car like race cars, hot rods, off-road and muscle cars, among others. More information is on the Downtown El Cajon website.

La Mesa Classic Car Show
Head to La Mesa Blvd. for the La Mesa Classic Car Show every Thursday evening through August 25. Besides cars, the event also includes music from local bands or DJs and is the perfect place to spend a summer evening. The lineup of events is on the La Mesa Village Association website.

Movies in the Park

Enjoy the cool nights at the summer movie in the park series held at parks throughout El Cajon. Movies run through August 26 and include titles like Sonic the Hedgehog, Sing 2, Encanto, and Mulan. A full schedule is here.

Explore the Outdoors

El Cajon has several local parks with outdoor activities for families to explore. Skateboarders can visit the Kennedy Recreation Center and Skate Park for a day of boarding or biking while the younger kids check out the playground. There are also exciting summer programs at like summer camps for all ages and swim lessons and open swim times at Fletcher Hills Pool.
